Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2016 Marsanne is light gold in colour and has an exotically complex nose made up of Asian pear, white peach, quince, apricot, and mandarin orange peel, in addition to notes of honeysuckle and white flowers. These aromas carry nicely onto the rich palate where they are joined by notes of golden delicious apple vanilla bean and spices, in addition to marmalade, marzipan and honey. The flavours are complimentary to the wonderful round texture in this wine, which is held in check by a nice vibrant acid backbone and a briny minerality reminiscent of crushed seashells. The overall impression is of a wine that is complex, full and rich, but with elegance, delicacy, and impeccable balance.
Vineyard Notes
The 2016 growing season was long, dry and warm, much like the previous 3 vintages. The grapes for this wine were sourced from The Blind Creek Vineyard in the Similkameen Valley. During harvest the grapes were sampled bi-weekly to measure flavour development and sugar content, and they were picked at the optimum point of flavour for the intended style, which is rich and round, complex, but with a vibrant core of acidity.
Production Notes
The grapes for the 2016 Marsanne were picked on September 20th, 2016. They were carefully hand-sorted and gently whole-bunch pressed, before 24 hours of cold settling. Fermentation took place in a French Oak barrels (33.3% new) and they remained in those barrels with monthly lees stirring to build richness and texture in the wine. The wine was gently pulled out of barrels in April where it was clarified and stabilized prior to bottling. We added a tiny pinch of Viognier for some additional aromatic lift and complexity, which we found perfectly augments the lovely characters in the Marsanne.
Winemaker Notes
98% Marsanne, 2% Viognier
Food Pairing Notes
It will pair perfectly with seafood and shellfish, and spicy Asian food. We also recommend experimenting with lighter meats such as chicken and pork dishes.
