Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2014 Stemwinder has an attractive golden hue. The perfumed nose showcases aromas of pea pod, pear, apricot, and vanilla, with a delicate and well integrated note of oak. This wine is rich and delicious. The palate is filled with ripe flavours of white peach, preserved pear, melon, and vanilla pod. Absolutely balanced with a refreshing and juicy finish, this is a great wine to share with friends and it offers fabulous value.
Vineyard Notes
This wine was made from grapes from three great sites in the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys. Okanagan Valley Chardonnay makes up the bulk of the blend at just under 40% fo the total. All of this was grown in the Castle Vineyard on the Golden Mile south of Oliver - a site that we feel continually produces excellent quality Chardonnay. Blind Creek Vineyards, in the Similkameen Valley, contributed most of the Viognier, some additional Chardonnay, and all of the Rousanne and Marsanne. The final 6% of the Viognier came from Road 9 Vineyard on the Black Sage, also south of Oliver. The 2014 vintage was long and warm, which helped us to make a rich and generously ripe wine.

Winemaker Notes
Choosing when to pick is the most important decision a winemaker makes. Patience and dedictation is required to reach peak flavour development in each block used in a blend. The harvest dates for this particular wine ranged from Setptembe r8th to October 23rd, depending on the variety and vineyard site. After harvest and crush the juice was racked into a combination of neutral oak barrels and stainless steel tanks for fermentation. The final blend was assembled just after Christmas and bottled in January 2015.

"Not Just a Pretty Face". This is an impressive and surprisingly complex white blend that is not just for sipping on a hot summer afternoon. It is remarkably versatile fitting in beautifully as a wine with appetizers, and yet carrying enough "weight" to accompany a main dish. My take is that it is a wine that shows best with food given its overall combination of fruit, oak, minerality and relatively long finish. In closing, Stemwinder is a wine that merits a bit of reflection from its drinkers.

My absolute favourite white Canadian wine. The blend is perfect to sip or have with dinner. It reminds me of my favourite american wine, "Conundrum".
