The 2016 Stemwinder is light gold in colour. The aromas jump out of the glass, displaying tropical fruit, apricot and white peach notes, along with Asian pear and golden delicious apples. On the palate, the wine is rich, with a full bodied mouthfeel and very long, intense flavours and a nice core of acidity to hold everything in check. Pair this full, decadent wine with crab or lobster bisque, halibut with creamy sauce, oysters, and creamier cheeses like blue and brie.
The 2016 growing season was long, dry and warm, much like the previous 3 vintages, allowing for perfect ripening conditions. During the harvest period, the grapes from each vineyard were sampled bi-weekly to measure flavour development and sugar content, and each vineyard parcel was picked at its optimum point of flavour for the intended Stemwinder style, which is rich and round, and intensely fruit-driven.
