Very dark in colour with purple tints, this wine opens with aromas of blueberry, black cherry, plum, and hints of black pepper and a subtle ‘amimale’ wild game complexity. These aromas continue onto the palate and are joined by concentrated black berry and cherry flavours, notes of vanilla, dark chocolate and white flowers, in a full, expansive palate with incredible length of flavour and delicacy.
The 2017 growing season was an interesting and highly unusual roller coaster ride! Higher than normal rainfall and an alarmingly cool spring gave way one of the warmest, driest summers in 40 years. Smoke from forest fires in other areas of the province reflected much of the heat away from the vines, resulting in high flavour intensity, moderate sugars, solid levels of acidity, which are the 3 attributes required for a great vintage! Each parcel of Syrah was picked at its optimal point of flavour development for the Road 13 style, which is fruit-driven, rich and complex. The grapes for the 2017 Syrah primarily came exclusively from the Blind Creek Vineyard in the Similkameen Valley, selected for it’s amazing black-fruited intensity.
